What is granite?
Granite is a light-colored igneous rock with large grains. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface. Granite has a lot going on: it has quartz, feldspar (whatever that is) with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles and other minerals. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock. It's a pretty common stone, and is used for counter tops, floor tiles, paving stone, curbing, stair treads. I love it for stairs, particularly if because it is very rustic and monumental.
